IT has been four months since two sisters’ beloved organic café was destroyed in a devastating fire – and now they are ready to reopen next week.

Lynn Fowler and Louise Barber-Redmore opened The Green Kitchen, located just off the A49 Warrington Road in Bartington in July last year, fulfilling their life-long dream.

But just 10 months after opening – and as the pair were planning celebrations for their first anniversary - a fire destroyed everything in the organic café and left the sisters heartbroken.

“We lost literally everything,” Lynn said, who arrived at the café on May 29 to find a fire had broken out in the kitchen overnight.

“Although the fire had managed to put itself out, everything was smoke damaged, so it all had to go.”

Luckily, the structural damage wasn’t too bad, but the furnishings and equipment were lost.

Lynn and Louise have spent the past few months sourcing new items while work was going on to get the café back up to scratch.

Lynn added: “We were waiting for the building to be put back together; because of the smoke damage, everything had to be taken out.

“We also had a fundraising page and had a really good response from it, so that meant we could get more equipment.

“We’re now up to the stage where we’re putting all the tables and chairs back in.”

The Green Kitchen is aiming to reopen at 10am on Wednesday, October 5 and returning customers will notice a few new additions to the menu to celebrate.

“We can’t wait, we’re desperate to get back up and running,” Lynn said.

“We’ve had a lot of customers saying they can’t wait to get back to us again.

“Although we’ve not been here that long, we have got such a strong client base.”

Before the fire, people came from far and wide for the sisters’ vegetarian food, and particularly for their homemade organic cakes and scones.

Lynn previously explained: “We've always been passionate about the environment and organic produce - particularly vegetarian food - and wanted to provide something for our community by using local suppliers.”
