THE site of a popular but now demolished town centre pub has been put up for sale at £1.1 million.

The Golden Lion pub was once one of Winsford's landmarks, but after closing and falling into a state of disrepair, the building was demolished in 2019.

Town councillor Ernie Welch, the landlord of The Old Star, had strived to save the pub but was unable to do so.

Earlier this year, the High Street site was cleared of rubble and it is now being marketed as a freehold property by leisure property specialists Fleurets.

According to the Fleurets website, healthcare, retail or residential developments would 'most likely' suit the site.

It added: "The site is mostly flat and level, consisting of an ex-pub site, together with part of an adjoining title. In total, the site extends to approximately 0.886 acres.

"This site is located at the heart of Winsford town centre, just on the northern side of the A54 and abutting Collingham Way.

"The land is not in a conservation area. It is felt that this site would most likely suit a healthcare, roadside retail or residential development for potential purchaser, subject to the necessary planning consent and permissions."
