A LUNG cancer charity has raised more than £14,000 after hosting its first running event in Delamere Forest.
The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation’s Delamere Dash took place on September 18, with runner able to choose either a 5km or 10km distance, with both routes covering gravel and trail paths through the forest.
A total of 412 runners took part.
For the 5km route, the first runner completed the course in 21 minutes, with the frontrunners in the 10km route finishing in 30 minutes.
The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, founded in the north west in 1990, enjoys the support of a dedicated group of runners.
Chelsea Mitchell, the charity’s running fundraising officer, said: “During the pandemic, our Roy’s Runners community kept on growing, as our virtual running events became very popular.
“We were so excited to be able to finally host our very own fundraising run and bring our Roy’s Runners together in person.”
Every runner received a goody bag at the end of the run, included a Delamere Dash medal, cotton t-shirt, goody bag, snacks and drinks.
All funds raised from this event will help fund vital research into the early detection of lung cancer, as well as support services that the charity provides for all those affected by the disease.
Chelsea added: “Now more than ever, those who are living with lung cancer need our support.
“We are proud to provide much-needed support services such as a nurse-led helpline, video sessions, and information booklets for people who are affected by the disease.”
