SUPERHEROES and movie characters will be spotted roaming the streets of Northwich next weekend as the popular Comic Con event returns to the town.

The one-day festival of all things comic book related will take place on Saturday, October 1, at Northwich Memorial Court on Chester Road.

The event organiser, Steven Howard, said: "With the ongoing financial crisis, we have taken the decision to keep the event as a smaller but free event.Northwich Guardian: Bumblebee: Steven HowardBumblebee: Steven Howard (Image: Steven Howard)

"We will still have characters from Star Wars, Bumblebee and superhero's to pose with.

“You never know which characters may be dropping in to say hello and pose for a picture!”

The Comic Con event will include prop displays, photo opportunities, characters and costumers.

There will be stalls where visitors can buy action figures, comics, artwork, retro games, Pokemon cards, Lego, TV memorabilia and collectables.

There will also be a cosplay competition, with prizes for those visitors who want to dress like their favourite characters.

Supporters of the event handed out leaflets and promotional material dressed as their favourite comic book characters earlier today (Saturday, September 24) at Barons Quay shopping area.

The first official Comic Con event took place in 1964 in New York, and now these events takes place in more than 120 countries around the world.

James Biddulph of Endon Stormtroopers, a Star Wars costume group based near Stoke-on-Trent, said: “The force will definitely be strong in Northwich on the first of October.

“We have attended in the past dressed as Stormtroopers, and will be at the next one also. It’s a fantastic event.

“It brings in loads of customers, stall holders and loads and loads of cosplay characters from various films, TV, comics and games.

“There will be loads of opportunities to have a selfie or two with your favourite characters.

The event was originally scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 30, but it was postponed last-minute due to a clash with Now Northwich 2022, a dance and street art festival in the town centre.

Event organisers TTC Events offered a refund to anyone who had bought tickets.

The Comic Con Market, which was free, went ahead and was well attended.
