A KEEN baker has been delighting customers at her husband's record shop and café with her exciting and original cakes.

Majka Coppack has become well-known to the regular visitors at The Electric Church in Winsford where she has been selling her treats.

The 40-year-old developed a love of baking as a youngster, watching and learning from her Slovakian grandmother as she made cakes and biscuits.

Now Majka, who works full-time for Adidas, has officially launched her own baking business - the Cinnamon Girl Bakery.

She said: “I don’t use recipes, as all my cakes are original. I have a trusted sponge recipe, but that’s just where everything begins.

"My Slovakian background fused with British traditional recipes help me to create unique and tasty twists of my own creation.

"The mojito cake is popular at The Electric Church. And in the summer, the fruity ones sell best.

"I only use the best ingredients – Lurpak butter and McDougals flour – it really makes a difference.

"I have just had an idea for a pistachio, raspberry and white chocolate cake. It’s going to be expensive to make, but worth it.

"At the moment, people seem to want chocolate. I just got an order for two chocolate and hazelnut cakes."

Her first solo baking attempt was a Slovakian ‘meter cake’, so-called because it is a metre in length, when she was just eight years old.

"Until then, I wasn't allowed to light the oven by herself," she said.

"I still love to make that cake. Though the last time I did was four years ago, for my friend’s ninety-seventh birthday."

Majka started selling her cakes through The Electric Church, which belongs to her husband Jimi Coppack, in 2020.

Her home-based bakery, where she makes all her cakes to order, has just been awarded a five-star food hygiene rating, the highest available.
