Moss Farm Leisure Complex in Northwich has appointed new night-time security staff following a summer of anti-social behaviour problems.

Cheshire Police have responded to several incidents in recent months, including noise disturbance and reports of teenagers smoking cannabis.

Cheshire West and Chester councillor Sam Naylor said things have improved in the weeks since the appointment.

He added: "The site has a growing reputation for anti-social behaviour, littering, noise disturbance and dog fouling.

"But the security is working well, and things have turned around."

The increased security at Moss Farm is part of a new multi-agency plan to restore the site’s fortunes.

A community partnership between Cheshire West and Chester Council, Brio, Northwich Town Council, Cheshire Police and local residents has secured funding of almost £4m to turn the site into a first-class community sports facility once again.

About £1m has been made available for the project from the sale of the former Mid Cheshire College site in Hartford.

Moss Farm is home to various sports clubs, including Cheshire County FA, Northwich Cricket Club, Northwich Rugby Union Football Club and Cheshire Gymnastics.

Cllr Naylor said: “My main objective for many years now is to have Moss Farm returned to the pristine and superb sports facility it once was. It is a personal battle.

“We are hoping to secure additional funds from some of the sports associations who are based at the site.”

The Guardian approached Brio Leisure for a statement however the company declined to comment.
