A MOMENT of history was witnessed by Northwich residents at the weekend, as the town came together for the proclamation of King Charles III.

The proclamation marking the accession of the King was read by the town mayor, Cllr Graham Emmett, on the steps outside Memorial Court at 3pm.

Cllr Emmett said: “We come together this afternoon following the passing of our late Sovereign, Queen Elizabeth II.

“Our sadness at this time is shared with people across the globe as we remember, with affection and gratitude, the lifetime of service given by our longest reigning monarch.

“The basis on which our monarchy is built has assured that through the centuries the crown has passed through an unbroken line of succession

“Today’s ceremony marks the formal proclamation to the people of the town of Northwich of the beginning of our new King’s reign.”

Residents then joined in singing the National Anthem.

This was followed by a blessing read by Reverend Andrew Ridley and three cheers to His Majesty the King, led by the mayor.

The mayor closed the ceremony by laying flowers in honour of The Queen.
