FOOTBALL at all levels in England will not take place this weekend as a mark of respect following the passing of Her Majesty The Queen.
The Football Association have confirmed that no games across its competitions, the National League System and grassroots leagues will be held following Elizabeth II’s passing yesterday.
It means Witton Albion and 1874 Northwich’s FA Trophy ties with Stockton Town and Clitheroe respectively will now be rearranged.
The same goes for Barnton vs Wythenshawe Amateurs and Winsford United vs Charnock Richard tomorrow and Northwich Victoria’s home game against Squires Gate on Sunday as well as Cheshire Football League and other grassroots fixtures.
It is currently expected fixtures scheduled for this coming midweek will go ahead as planned, but no sporting fixtures will be played on the day of The Queen’s funeral.
The move follows the decision of Premier League and English Football League clubs to postpone this weekend’s fixtures as a mark of respect.
There is no official word yet from the Rugby Football Union on the status of this weekend's fixtures involving the likes of Northwich and Winnington Park
Official government guidance states that sporting events can still go ahead during the national period of mourning which is now underway, but that any decision would be left to the discretion of individual organisations.
