A MAN has sadly died on the motorway following an incident yesterday evening, Tuesday.

Emergency services were called to the M56 eastbound shortly after 8pm between junction 12 for Runcorn and junction 11 for Preston Brook and Daresbury.

This came after Cheshire Police received reports of concerns over the safety of a man on a bridge above the carriageway.

Sadly however, despite receiving medical attention from emergency workers, the man died.

The eastbound carriageway was closed for around three hours during what was described as a ‘police incident’, with lanes reopening at around 11.20pm.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “At 8.10pm on Tuesday, September 6, police were called to a bridge over the M56 at Preston Brook following reports of concern for safety.

“A man was seen to fall from the bridge. Officers attended the scene and gave the man medical attention, but he sadly died.

“There are no suspicious circumstances, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
