A PROFESSIONAL actor is helping budding young thespians with their careers after taking on a teaching role at Mid Cheshire College.

Roger Morlidge, of Barnton, has started at the Hartford campus in a part time role in the performing arts faculty, and he is hoping to pass on some of his experience to the students.

He is probably best recognised for his recent role in Coronation Street, where he played Mr Griffin, the head teacher at Rosie Webster's school.

He has also appeared in films such as Bridget Jones's Diary and Shakespeare in Love and television shows Sherlock Holmes and EastEnders.

Roger said: "We moved to the area a couple of years ago and my new role is helping me towards my PGCE which I am currently taking.

"I also have a great love for the theatre and have appeared in many National Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Company productions.

"I enjoy teaching young people and increasing their interest in the profession; as well as teaching at the college, I also take workshops at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester."

Roger's part-time commitment to teaching allows him to also carry on acting and he can also be heard on Radio 4's Woman's Hour all next week in a play called Keep the Homes Fires Burning.

Tina Norcup, performing arts team leader, said: "Roger brings a tremendous amount of expertise to the college with his wide range of skills and understanding of theatre, television, film and radio."
