A BURTONWOOD nursery where children are safe, content and kind has been praised by Ofsted.

Inspectors visited Cottontails Day Nursery where they rated it ‘good’.

In their report, representatives claimed that children have a positive start to their education at the Mercer Street site.

“They make friends and form secure attachments with staff,” it says.

“Children are safe and content.

“They become deeply engaged in their learning as they explore the wealth of resources and activities on offer.”

The youngster’s behaviour particularly impressed Ofsted representatives.

They reported that ‘children behave well’.

“Strong routines support their positive behaviour.

“Children listen to staff and follow instructions without hesitation.

“They are kind to their friends and enjoy playing in collaboration with each other.”

Staff at the Burtonwood nursery were also praised by inspectors.

They said that staff know their key children ‘very well’ and track children’s progress to help them decide what they want them to learn next.

The report says how staff ‘extend’ children’s learning as they play.

“For example, as children make footprints in sand, staff encourage them to compare the sizes of their feet.

“Children's understanding grows as staff treat play as a meaningful learning opportunity.”
