A NORTHWICH family is holding a charity football match in Winsford to give back to the hospital caring for their son following his rare hypothyroidism diagnosis.

Last year, five-year-old Ezra was referred to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital with an under-active thyroid – an extremely uncommon condition in children of such a young age.

Dad Matt Greenway explained: “We decided after all the work by the staff and seeing what happens within the hospital, we wanted to do something for them and the children within their care.

“We have an upcoming charity football fixture which will be held at Winsford United’s Barton Stadium on September 4.

“This game will be against JET2 TV Allstars which features faces from Emmerdale, coronation street, Hollyoaks and more.

“There is also a raffle being held with the main prize donated from Jet2, which is return flights for two anywhere within Europe.”

In June 2021, Ezra was referred to Leighton Hospital with health concerns causing difficulty in his breathing.

After various tests, Ezra was diagnosed with hypothyroidism with abnormal levels of thyroid hormones.

Matt said: “Leighton Hospital had to contact Alder Hey Children’s Hospital for them to provide a care plan to be followed.

“Ezra was prescribed medication to manage his abnormal levels.

“In September 2021, we received very fortunate news that Ezra’s genetic blood test results came back as normal with no syndromes and no genetic abnormalities.”

In the words of the health professionals, ‘Ezra is a very unique child’ and is still undergoing regular appointments at Alder Hey.

Matt added: “It was also found that Ezra’s bone growth is delayed by 3.8 years, so this is still an ongoing journey for us.

“We wanted to take the step and help make a real change.

“We decided to create our very own charity, ‘R.E.D – Remember Every Dream’, to help raise vital funds for Alder Hey.”

The charity football match, sponsored by The Praeclarus Group, kicks off at 2pm with gates opening at 1pm.

There is a £2.50 entrance fee for adults, £1.50 fir under 16s and children under three are free.
