MONTHS of traffic disruption are set to end on Monday, as Redrow anticipates the finalisation of roundabout construction at the junction of Northwich Road and Sudlow Lane.

The roundabout, which will allow residents access to the new Tabley Park housing development, has been causing congestion since work began in January, with temporary traffic lights and only one lane open.

Gary Hammond, 66, from Lostock Graham, commutes to Mobberley and back daily.

He said: “On bad days it can add 15-20 minutes to my journey.

“I am appalled that it has taken at least six months to build a roundabout at the junction with Sudlow lane, and still appears nowhere near finished.

“May I remind people that after the latest Tsunami to hit Japan, they had to rebuild 300 metres of six lane motorway and completed it in 10 days!”

The traffic management is expected to end today, with completion of the roundabout in mid-September.

The 180-property housing development will feature a range of three, four and five-bedroom homes and bungalows, as well as allotments, a community orchard, children’s play area and 15 acres of open space.

Gareth Williams, technical director for Redrow North West, said: “We fully understand residents’ frustration and thank them for their understanding while these essential works have been undertaken.

“Construction of the roundabout on Northwich Road began in January 2022 – having been suspended while the improvement works to Junction 19 of the M6 were carried out.

“This suspension was instructed by Highways England and Cheshire East Council highways as Northwich Road was one of the diversion routes while lane closures were in place on the M6.”

Residents have taken to social media to voice their frustrations about the ongoing works.

Liam Fowler, 27, from Knutsford said: “I have been stuck in and out of these road works each time travelling to work since they began.

“This adds time to my journey and costs me more money to get to work as petrol doesn’t come for free and I have an older car which does not have a stop-start system.

“I have to allow an extra 10 minutes to travel to work in the morning, otherwise I’ll be late to work - and then I’ll lose even more money.”

Redrow filed three planning applications before construction was given the go-ahead in February 2020.

Cheshire East Council’s strategic planning team deferred the plans in both August and October of 2019, in order to push the development to create a more bespoke design for the town’s prestigious location.

The 36 acre development side has been described as ‘affordable luxury housing’ with properties currently being listed between £583,995 and £915,995.

The differing house styles are named after local places, such as ‘The Mere’ (£696,995), ‘The Marthall’ (£915,995) and ‘The Beeston’ (£910,995).

Mr William’s said: “All traffic management measures are due to be removed by Monday morning (August 22) and all work will be completed on the roundabout by mid-September.”
