A PAIR of beer lovers are really getting into the spirit of this year’s Piña Colada Festival, after creating two special tropical-themed brews to help celebrate the event.

Chris Birtwistle and Simon Appleton, the founders of Hush Brewing Co, are such big fans of the unique festival, they wanted to get involved and make their own special contribution.

Having started out brewing beers from Simon’s back garden in Little Leigh, the duo are hoping to full operational from their new premises on Navigation Road soon.

“We've been getting excited about Northwich's Piña Colada festival,” Simon said.

“The atmosphere in the town last year was brilliant so we thought, ‘why not make a Piña Colada beer’.

“We've gone two ways on it.

“Escape - a session-able cask coconut pale ale brewed with toasted coconut chips.

“And then we’ve got a NEPA Colada - building on the science x engineering NEPA base we brewed for Chester Craft Beer Festival, but we've now added hints of pineapple and coconut to this hazy beer.

“We can't wait for people to try them.”

The Salty Dog will feature both of the beers while Bird and Hat will have NEPA and Barons Lounge will be serving Escape.

Simon added: “We have been doing a lot of research.

“We are always bouncing off each other as we each elevate each other’s ideas and push each other to make better beer.

“We are currently setting up a website shop for merch/tees and for direct sales once we have set up for canning in our new premises – it will also have a taproom where people will be about to buy the freshest beer in town.”

The pair were so enamoured with how much fun they had at last year’s event; they have even made custom outfits for this year’s renewal.

“We’ve recently done a family tie dye party where we have all made custom t-shirts for the festival.

“We can’t wait for Saturday and to see the people of the town getting out and enjoying themselves.”

The Piña Colada Festival takes place in three locations in Northwich on Saturday, August 20.
