MEET Uggy, Poppet and Bella, three dogs from Cheshire Dogs’ Home looking for the pawfect family to call their own.

In this feature, we’ll regularly tell you about some of the four-legged friends awaiting a new home at the Cheshire-based rescue centre.

Uggy: Age five, male greyhound

Northwich Guardian: UggyUggy

Uggy is a giddy boy who is looking for a sofa to spend his retirement on, but he also loves going on walks and exploring.

He is an ex-racing greyhound so living in a home will be a whole new experience for him, but the team at Cheshire Dogs’ Home have socialised him.

Due to his previous training, Uggy does have a very high prey drive and can be very strong on the lead so he would not be able to live with any cats or small animals.

His owners would also need to be aware his prey drive may extend to small dogs and is he is trained to wear a muzzle on walks.

Greyhounds do well with two or three shorter walks a day - they are built for speed, not stamina, and use up their energy in short bursts, leaving lots of time for napping, cuddling and playing.

Poppet: Age 10, female Staffy

Northwich Guardian: PoppetPoppet

Poppet is a sweet Staffy and loves nothing better than being out and about, getting attention and enjoying treats.

She isn’t keen on socialising with other dogs so is not to be rehomed with dogs or cats.

This could be that she is a little older and has grown tired of socialising, or hasn’t been socialised, and this is something new owners will have to keep in mind.

Poppet came into Cheshire Dogs’ Home’s care as a transfer from another kennels and originally she was a stray, so there is no history on her and the team aren’t sure if she has been in a home environment previously.

They feel the best home for her would be one with patient and understanding owners and a family with children no younger than 15 years old – subject to a successful meet.

Bella: Age eight, female Staffy

Northwich Guardian: BellaBella

Bella is a sweet girl who is very friendly and regularly greets dog home staff with her Staffy smile and wagging tail.

From what the team have seen, Bella isn’t a fan of other dogs entering into her personal space as she is quite happy to get out and about and enjoy her walks by herself, therefore they don’t recommend her to be rehomed with another dog or any other animals.
