FRESH plans for luxury holiday lodges in Cheshire have been shelved just months after the scheme was first refused.

In January, Cheshire West and Chester Council planners rejected an application to build eight log cabins on land off the A54 Chester Road, near Little Budworth.

The scheme was denied planning permission due to concerns over access to public transport and its potential harm to the rural landscape.

Undeterred, the applicant submitted new plans for the lodges – which would offer three bedrooms, an open plan living area and outdoor seating on a rear veranda – in March.

However this application has now been withdrawn.

A planning statement, submitted as part of the application, argued the proposal would have created overnight visitor accommodation to help meet the growing demand in the domestic holday market.

It said: "The post-pandemic period shows a growing demand in the domestic holiday market that is creating opportunities for the provision of overnight visitor accommodation.

"One such opportunity is the proposed development of eight holiday lodges at land off Chester Road.

"It has been demonstrated that there are around 30 visitor attractions and holiday parks operating in the west Cheshire open countryside.

"The Local Plan states that West Cheshire attracts approximately 25 million visitors annually and its visitor economy is worth £1.2 billion and supports 14,000 local jobs.

"It also states that Oulton Park Racing Circuit attracts a wide range of visitors, participants and spectators.

"The proposed development would be nearer to Oulton Park Racing Circuit than any existing provider of overnight visitor accommodation.

"The proposed log cabins would be supplied provided by Beaver Log Cabins of Winsford.

"In this way the proposed development would have the added benefit of generating income for another Cheshire-based business."
