THREE figure skaters from Northwich have once again contributed to Great Britain success in the World Open Inline Figure Skating Championships.

Eleanor Cameron, 24, Lucy Buckley, 23, and Charlotte Caldwell, 20, are members of the GB Silverblades team that have returned from Toulouse, France, with a stack of medals.

This is the fifth year that Cameron and Caldwell have travelled abroad to compete at this competition, in previous years having been to Milan and Fasano in Italy and Dijon France.

It is a first major competition for Buckley but she was among the medal winners as Silverblades returned with five world champions, plus eight silver medals and four bronze medals.

Buckley won silver in the fourth division adult competition, Caldwell came home with two bronze medals – one from the second division adult competition and one from the third division solo dance competition in which the GB team dominated the podium by placing first, second and third!

Cameron, the team captain, placed a very respectable fifth in her category, second division senior women which is a class higher than she has previously competed.

A total of 15 countries and 340 skaters took part in this year's competition, including teams from Ukraine, Japan and Canada.

Head coach Donna McCarthy said she was once again thrilled with the results.

"Each and every skater should be very proud of what they have achieved," she added.

"They worked hard and impressed everyone with their performances and their team spirit.

"The team are all dedicated to their sport and work so hard in practice, but above all they love skating and enjoy doing it."

She also added it was great for the team to be able to travel and attend this competition once again following the disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The team have been training at numerous venues ahead of the competition, including The Grange Sports Centre in Hartford, Altrincham Leisure Centre and Partington Sports Village.
