THE fire which engulfed part of Delamere Forest last week has been confirmed as ‘accidental’ due to the hot weather.
The fire broke out on Tuesday (July 19) when eight fire engines were deployed to the popular beauty spot at Ashton Road after receiving reports from a forest ranger at around 5.40pm.
Fire crews spent almost 24 hours at the scene controlling the fire and damping down the ground.
It was first thought the fire could have been started by an open fire or disposable barbecue.
But Cheshire Police has since confirmed the cause as ‘accidental due to high ambient temperatures’.
The fire caused significant damage to the ground and trees, which could impact on any nesting birds or other wildlife within that area.
When visiting Delamere Forest this summer, remember there is a strict no fires policy in place.
