A SAFETY audit is to be carried to determine the potential risks in crossing roads in Northwich town centre.

Concerns were raised at last month’s town council meeting by Cllr Lee Siddall, who described crossing two sections of Weaver Way as 'taking your life into your own hands’.

One of the locations highlighted as posing a risk to pedestrians is the paved part of Weaver Way at the top of the alleyway beyond the Barons Lounge bar towards Wildwood.

The other is the lower part of the road, by Curtain Magic, which Cllr Siddall said was a ‘blind bend’.

At the time, Cllr Siddall said: “I actually see them as being quite dangerous.

“Can we not maybe look at putting in a zebra crossing or something similar to help mitigate any future accidents from happening?

“As the town gets busier there is more chance of someone running out.

“It’s difficult to see around that bend, and if you’ve got kids with you, you’re taking life into your own hands.

However, at the July meeting of the town council, it was confirmed the matter had been raised with Cheshire West and Chester Council and a highways officer will now visit the site to carry out a safety audit.
