HUNDREDS of riders rode into town as Northwich celebrated the return of its hugely popular Scooter Day.

The event hasn’t been held since 2019 due to the pandemic, but a huge array of scooters arrived in town to make up for lost time on Sunday, June 3.

After a three-year hiatus, there was live music provided by The Tall Faces with Apple Market Place transformed into a scooter riders dream.

Last year’s event was controversially cancelled at the last minute due to safety concerns by Cheshire West and Chester Council.

However, there was no such drama this year and with plenty of food and drink options, the family-friendly event was enjoyed by all. This year’s event also included a polite nod and dedication Her Majesty The Queen, in what is her Platinum Jubilee year.

With scooters in all colours and sizes, including one decorated with poppy’s paying tribute to the fallen, while paid homage to the hugely popular Netflix series ‘Stranger Things’.

Derek Smith, one of the event organisers said: "It was a fantastic day and something I’m quite proud of hosting in Northwich Town Centre, there were around 400 scooters that arrived and we had live music and DJs to keep everyone entertained.

"The event wouldn’t have been possible without the fantastic support from The Omega Scooter Club, also a huge thanks goes to our sponsors.

"This year I worked hard to ensure all the correct plans were in place and with some support from Northwich BID I worked closely with the local authority to ensure the event was a safe and fun day for all.

"People of Northwich turned out to show their support and I’m looking forward to bringing the event back next year."
