THE Cheshire county men's side were defeated by a formidable Warwick & Worcester team on Sunday, writes David O'Brien.

On a very difficult green in Birmingham, Cheshire only recorded two winners.

Danny Nixon played excellently to post a 21-10 card, while Tom Vickers was also impressive as he defeated the ex-Waterloo champion Jon Palmer 21-17.

The away tie saw Cheshire lose by 74 shots.

At the home leg, Cheshire only won the game by 13 shots.

Robert Winnington was one of Cheshire’s six winners at home with a 21-17 victory.

The 61-shot overall defeat means Cheshire are very unlikely to qualify for this year’s semi-finals.

Robert Winnington and Emma Earlam of Castle Sports took the first prize of £300 at the Owley Wood Mixed Pairs on Saturday when they defeated Paul Roberts and Jane Lamb in the final.

Paul Hennin and Janet Cross had a good run-in competition, reaching the semi-finals stage where they were beaten 21-15 by Rob and Emma.

The qualifying rounds of this year's Roberts Bakery Cup take place on Monday on eight greens across Mid Cheshire.

The final of the Littler Cup sees Wharton Cons take on Middlewich Community BC on Sunday at Kingswood BC.

Wharton Cons B team won their quarter-final game in the De Knoop Cup on Saturday beating Heswall RBL 195-176 at Waverton Institute this has set up a Semi-Final tie with Castle Sports B on Saturday 2nd July.

Wayne Ditchfield and Anthony Walker were the latest qualifiers in the Castle Sports Classic on Saturday evening. The next heats take place on Saturday evening at the David Street venue starting at 6pm.
