A DRINK driver from Scotland has been banned from the road after crashing into traffic lights in Northwich and driving off.

Charles Glackin, of Whyte Avenue in Glasgow, was driving his Renault on the A556 in Lostock Gralam on May 13, when he failed to stop after damaging traffic lights.

The 34-year-old was later stopped by a police patrol car and when asked to provide officers with a sample of his breath, was nearly twice over the limit.

He was appearing at Chester Magistrates Court on Tuesday, May 31, where he pleaded guilty to two charges – failing to stop after an accident and drink driving.

The proportion of alcohol in his breath was 61mg alcohol in 100ml of breath – with the limit being 35mg/100ml.

Glackin’s guilty drunk drive guilty plea was taken into account as magistrates disqualified him from driving for a period of 18 months.

He was also fined £700 and must pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £70 surcharge to fund victim services.

There was no separate penalty for failing to stop after the accident.
