MPS across Cheshire have been paying tribute to The Queen as she gets set to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee.

After serving on the throne for 70 years, Tatton MP Esther McVey said it was a once in a lifetime event and one the country may never experience again.

She said: “For 70 years Queen Elizabeth II has served this country and the Commonwealth with life-long dedication through good times and bad. No other monarch has reigned for so long and it is right we come together and celebrate Her Majesty’s achievements as we spend time with friends and family.

“I like so many others, was touched by her poignant address to the nation during the height of the pandemic when she said, “we will meet again”. In words echoing those of war time, I am delighted we can now come together, young and old and celebrate her wonderful reign with street parties and other events as we enjoy each other’s company once more.

“I know there are many celebrations planned at the end of the week across the constituency for the Jubilee and I will be attending, amongst other things, a service of thanksgiving at Chester Cathedral, a garden party in Lostock Gralam and events in Mere, Knutsford and Wilmslow.

“I look forward to seeing many of you in the coming days and I hope however you choose to spend the Jubilee bank holiday and weekend that you enjoy the celebrations.”

Weaver Vale MP Mike Amesbury said: “The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee commemorates a remarkable 70 years of public duty by her Majesty since her accession to the throne on February 6, 1952, following the death of her father King George VI.

“It’s also an opportunity to celebrate all the things that make our country great.

“As my late colleague Jo Cox MP once said, we have more in common with each other than things that divide us.

“I hope we will be able to show that in the community spirt over the Jubilee weekend.”

Eddisbury MP Edward Timpson OBE said: "The bunting is bursting out all over Eddisbury - a chance for us all to come together and rejoice, reflect on, and revel in Her Majesty’s unparalleled and selfless reign.

"It’s incredible to think that my late mother Alex was just five years old when Queen Elizabeth acceded to the throne - the same age as I was for the Silver Jubilee in 1977, and as my youngest daughter, Nell, is for these Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

"We have been so fortunate to have our Sovereign Lady's steady and experienced hand guiding us through many turbulent times for our nation, whilst also providing a focal point of pride and happiness for her people in the better ones.

"This is our time to - once again - say thank you in the best of British ways to a truly remarkable person.

"God save the Queen."
