A GROUP of young men caught smoking cannabis in Delamere Forest by police have been told their actions could have resulted in someone losing their life.

Two of the males at the scene were in 'very lovely vehicles' and Cheshire Police Rural Crime Team took to social media to warn the public about the dangers of driving under the influence.

The incident happened yesterday (Monday, May 30) evening, with the pair expected to be dealt with accordingly.

One of the PCSOs at the scene said: “This evening whilst on duty a strong smell of cannabis led me to a group of young men in the Delamere Forest area, some of whom were in possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia.

“Two of the males at the scene were driving and very nervous about the future for themselves and their very lovely vehicles.

“Basically, drug driving is incredibly dangerous, and not only can these males not drive for the next 24 hours and can’t drive themselves to work. They then had to explain to their not very happy parents the reason why they couldn’t.

“It simply isn’t worth it. They didn’t expect to see us, and PC Tether and PC Moss came to my assistance to caution and will deal with the offence accordingly.”

Sergeant Rob Simpson, of the force's rural crime team, also commented: “This stop may well just have stopped a young person losing their life or taking someone else's.

“Drug driving like drink driving is a very serious matter.

“I for one have seen the results and delivered the news to mums and dads who have answered the door to me wondering why an officer is knocking on the door.

“Thanks all to those who are supportive of us making our roads safer.”
