A BANNED driver has been jailed after he failed to stop for police on roads in Northwich and Winsford.

Ashley Duhaney, of no fixed abode, but previously of Lock Lane, Partington in Greater Manchester, was appearing at Chester Magistrates Court via video-link on Monday, May 23.

The 35-year-old, who was jailed last week for dealing Class A drugs in Devon, was spotted by police driving an Audi A3 on May 2, 2021.

Officers observed him driving without due care and attention on Hall Lane and Manchester Road in Northwich before he continued to do the same en route to Winsford.

He failed to stop for police in Wharton Park Road and when he was eventually apprehended, refused to provide officers with a sample of his breath. Further checks by police revealed Duhaney was already disqualified from driving for previous offences.

Although he had originally pleaded guilty to the offences on October 6 last year, the sentencing exercise had been adjourned while the more serious matters were concluded at Exeter Crown Court on May 19.

Magistrates sentenced Duhaney to serve eight weeks in prison for driving while disqualified, reasoning the offence to be so serious and that it had been aggravated by his previous offending.

He was also handed an eight-week sentence for failing to provide officers with a sample of his breath, but that term will be served concurrently.

Duhaney was also disqualified from driving for an additional period of three and a half years.

There were no separate penalties for failing to stop and driving without due care and attention.

He must also pay a surcharge of £128 surcharge to fund victim services.
