Platinum Jubilee events taking place in and around Northwich

From Thursday, June 2, to Sunday, June 5, there will be street parties, beacon lightings, fun days and picnics - plus plenty more activities - for the whole family to enjoy as the country celebrates the Queen's 70th year on the throne.

Here are the events we have been made aware of which are taking place across Northwich and surrounding areas.

Northwich

Verdin Park Music Festival - June 2 and June 4

The beacon lighting will take place on June 2 at 9.15pm on the verges of Verdin Park, next to Castle Hill. The Jubilee festival on June 4 from Northwich Town Council will bring: The Pretend Beatles, John Collins Band, Pastryshoes, The Purple Tones and Ivan Kingsley as Elvis.

The event is free entry and will be open from 1pm, with fireworks at 10pm.

There will also be a licensed bar on the day so please don’t bring any alcohol on site. There will also be hot food and ice cream.

Barnton Parish Council - June 2 and June 5

At 2pm on Thursday, Cllr Dilys Hooper, chair of Barnton Parish Council will announce a proclamation heralding the lighting of the beacons at Jubilee Corner, Townfield Lane, Barnton.

 At 9.35pm at Nursery Road Recreation Ground, Barnton Silver Band and other traditional pipe bands will play Diu Regnare, a unique tune specially written for the occasion. At 9.45pm Barnton Parish Council will light the beacon.

On Sunday, the parish council will host prince/princess picnic in the park from 2pm to 4pm. Fancy dress is optional, and families can bring a picnic and enjoy music, cakes, balloons and gifts.

Events in Hartford - June 2 and June 5

June 2 will see the Hartford scarecrow competition kick off. The theme is open, but 1950s ideas are encouraged.

At 7pm, there will be a special bell ringing at St John’s Church, followed by a platinum praise evening at 7.30pm and the beacon lighting at 9.45pm.

There will be a barbecue at the church on June 5, but pre-booking is essential.

Wincham Parish Council - June 2, June 3 and June 5

The festivities get off to a flying start in the village on the Thursday, with a scooter parade at 8.30pm, starting at Linnards Lane Playing Field. This will be marshalled and roads will be temporarily closed whilst the event takes place.

Scooters are to be decorated in red, white and blue – but there can be no electric scooters. The beacon lighting takes place in the field at 9.45pm.

There will be a service of thanksgiving at 11am on June 3 in the memorial garden on the playing field and Sunday will see the village’s picnic in the park from 1pm to 5pm at Wincham Community Primary School.

There will be fun for all the family including face-painting, astronomy, a Body Shop stall, children's games, a jubilee cake competition and much more. There will be a bar.  

Iron Bridge in Castle – June 2, June 3, June 4 and June 5

On Thursday there will be a Royal quiz at 8pm, followed by red/white/blue fancy dress and Royal karaoke on Friday. On Saturday, there will be tea and cake during a garden party which will cost £3 between 10.30am and 12pm. On Sunday there will be family fun and crafts from 12pm until 4pm and bingo at 5pm. There will be children’s packed lunches available for £4 from Thursday to Sunday 12-4pm and little games set up in the garden.

Museum events - June 3 and June 4

On June 3, Weaver Hall Museum will host a Jubilee Animal Parade Picnic. Northwich Libraries will also give a reading from a children’s book and there will be a screening of a children’s film, such as ‘Winnie the Pooh’.

Everyone will have the chance of enjoying a special Jubilee film. On June 3 and 4, the Lion Salt Works Museum will feature a Queen's Quiz, music through the decades with a live band and tombola. Everyone is encouraged to bring an outdoor picnic or alternatively buy food and drinks on site.

Throughout the day, there will be Jubilee craft activities available for children as well as a small display of royal collection items in the café. On Friday only, there will be a 'Right Royal Bake Off Competition' (with judging at 3pm).

Everyone can also enjoy the Butterfly Garden, renamed for the celebration as Jubilee Walk.

Children can enjoy themselves on the industrially-themed play area and in a wonderful finale to the day, there will be ‘live’ music at the Salt Barge Inn, the community's nearby pub.   

Lostock Lodge Care Home - June 3, June 4 and June 5

This residential care home in Lostock Gralam is celebrating with a garden party on June 3, a street party on June 4 and entertainment and prosecco on June 5.

The Green Dragon - June 4

The Green Dragon is hosting a garden party on from 3pm until 9pm with music, a barbecue and a live band "Pierce the Heart" on stage at 5pm.

Tracey Lee Egan and Kerry Yardley are organising a photo with the "Queen" in aid of St Luke's Cheshire Hospice at 87 West Avenue, Rudheath. This is from 10am until 12.30pm, with a £1 donation to the hospice charity.

Winsford and Middlewich

Winsford Marina - June 2

The Queen’s jubilee celebration will take place on Marina Island from 5pm and 10pm.

The Winsford Town Council event is free to attend, will have live music, children’s entertainment, market stalls, face painting, walk-around performers, licensed bar, hot food, ice cream and a circus. The beacon will be lit at 9.45pm.

GGO Street Party, Winsford - June 2

GGO Community Group, based at 17 Finsbury Walk, is hosting a traditional street party full of music, dance, crafts, games, party food and lots of fun and laughter to bring resident together. To book, visit eventbrite.co.uk/e/344956312617.

Big Middlewich Street Party and St Michael’s Church - June 5

Families are invited to join in the festivities on Wheelock Street and the Bull Ring from 12pm until 4pm.

Organised by Middlewich Town Council, there is plenty on offer, including a parade, free cake, Punch and Judy, balloon modelling, live entertainment with music and dancing, plus the lighting of the beacon at St Michael’s Church.

The church will also host a service at 11am, followed by a ‘bring your own’ picnic.

Meadow Bank Social Club, Middlewich - June 5

The club is hosting a children's afternoon tea party free of charge. Children must be accompanied by an adult and numbers are limited. Please contact the club on Facebook if you would like a place.

Middlewich Royal British Legion - June 5

Middlewich Royal British Legion are having a children's disco to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee from 5pm to 8pm

All are welcome - it is a free event but a ticket is needed for admission which can be found behind the bar.

Beacon lighting on the Barncroft - June 2

Live music will herald the start of the royal celebrations. Residents are invited to bake a Jubilee tart to bring along to the event which starts at 9pm. A band will lead the music.

Beacon lighting at Lower Peover - June 2

Oswald’s Church will ring bells and light a beacon.

Beacon lighting at Holmes Chapel - June 2

A rooftop beacon will be lit on the summit of the Grade I listed church tower at St Luke's in Holmes Chapel after a proclamation by the town crier, followed by a piper who play a special bugle call entitled 'Majesty'.

Street party – June 2

The residents of 5 Sandileigh Avenue are hosting a barbecue at 2pm with singers providing entertainment at around 3pm. The house will be decorated with balloons and bunting and people are welcome to join for food and drink.

Wilmslow events – June 2 and June 4

On Thursday at 2pm near Barclays, the town crier will announce aspecially-written Proclamation heralding the lighting of the beacons later that day. At 9.15pm, the beacon lighting ceremony will take place at the Memorial Gardens near St Bartholomew’s Church. Refreshments will be available to purchase. The ceremony includes a local piper and buglers.

On Saturday from 12pm there will be two free events at the Carrs Park. From 12pm until 5pm there will be a family fun day with food and drinks, crown making and a bouncy castle and an animated film The Queen’s Corgi. Later, from 6pm until 10pm, the BBC’s Platinum Party at the Palace will be broadcast live on the big screen, with a food and drink market onsite and free flags for those attending.

Flat Cap Hotels - June 2, June 3 and June 4

The Courthouse, Knutsford, The Vicarage, Holmes Chapel and The Bridge, Prestbury, are all hosting a royal bottomless afternoon tea from Thursday-Saturday. This homemade cakes, scones, finger sandwiches, clotted cream, strawberry jam with unlimited Beefeater and tonic, beer or fizz for £40 per person. Knutsford Lions’ annual fair - June 3

Knutsford Lions are hosting an annual fair on the Heath from 11am to 4pm. Charity and trade stalls will be available, along with donkey rides, live music, food and drink, a barbecue by Knutsford Scouts, frisbee golf, fair games and a dog show. All proceeds will go to charities.

The Hall at Marthall - June 4

The Hall at Martall is hosting afternoon tea at 1pm with entertainment provided by Wilmslow Brass Band, face painting and a bouncy castle. A beer festival will start at 3pm, serving a selection of local craft beer and cider and a barbecue will offer burgers and hot dogs.

Admission is £5 which includes a beer glass and three pints, with further drinks at £1 a pint. Soft drinks and wine will also be available. Buzzard, a five-piece cover band, will provide evening entertainment from 7.30pm.

Alderley Edge Park - June 4 and June 5

A giant screen will be erected in Alderley Edge Park so that anyone in the village can set up at picnic party and watch the celebrity concert at Buckingham Palace from 3pm to 10pm.

Families and friends can bring their own food, wine, tables and chairs. Bunting and Union Jacks will be draped on flag poles. Red, white and blue flowers will be on display in village planters.

The Great Jubilee Lunch and Platinum Jubilee Pageant broadcast on the BBC will also be screened from London on Sunday.

Bouncy castles will be coming to town

Peover Hall – June 4 and 5

Peover Hall opens its gardens from 2pm to 5pm as part of the National Garden Scheme. Homemade cakes and afternoon teas will be available.

There will be a plant stall and all proceeds will go to Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie Hospice UK and the Queen’s Nursing Institute. Guided tours of the Grade II listed Elizabethan family house are available at 2.30pm and 3.30pm. To book visit peoverhall.com.

The Big Lunch in Holmes Chapel - June 5

The Big Lunch is being held at Holmes Chapel Leisure Centre. A Churches Together Service is being held at 11.30am, followed by a ‘bring your own picnic’ at 1pm. A band will lead a parade before the start of an afternoon of fun and entertainment.

Local schools and organisations are decorating gazebos with a ‘through the decades’ theme, offering games, crafts, challenges and items to buy.

Afternoon tea and ice creams will be served and there will be a display of classic cars. Dancers, musician and choirs will provide live entertainment.

Tatton Park’s Topsy-Turvy Jubilee Tea Party - on until June 5

The tea party will be in the gardens, where children will be taken on a new interactive story walk, with games and activities.

The Mad Hatter and musical mayhem in ancient Greece are among highlights of this fun-filled forest adventure. There are three performances each day at 11.30am, 1pm and 2.30pm.

There is no extra charge for this special event, simply turn up.
