A RENOWNED folk singer from Nashville is heading to Northwich as part of his upcoming tour of the UK.

Rod Picott has released thirteen albums over the last twenty years and at the age of 57, his engine is still running strong.

Born in New Hampshire, raised in Maine, Rod has spent the past 25 years living in Nashville, Tennessee.

The former construction worker has just released his new album 'Paper Hearts and Broken Arrows' and is all set to begin a 16-night UK tour in London on June 15.

He will rock up at Davenham Players Theatre on Monday, June 27 - his third appearance at the venue.

In a recent review, Glide magazine, said: "Picott sings with a bare and bones grace reminiscent of Springsteen’s Nebraska and the off the cuff lyrical and musical directness of the late Jason Molina.

"Too many important artists fly under the musical radar today, and Picott is yet another valid wordsmith that needs to be heard."

His latest album is described as a collection of some of the strongest songs he has ever put to tape.

They range from a heartbreaking narrative of boxer Sonny Liston’s tragic life to a full-throated and rocking declaration of loyalty.

The album was produced by noted producer/videographer Neilson Hubbard (John Prine, Lucinda Williams, Orphan Brigade).

Promoter SABADO NFP is set up on a not for profit basis - all ticket money goes to the bands / venue hire - tempting bands out of the city and into the semi rural - promoting music from a diverse range of genres - from Americana to Alt Country to Blues to Folk tp Pop to Rock.

Tickets for the gig are £12 advanced and £15 on the door.
