THE organisers of award-winning festival bluedot has said this year 'looks set to be one of the best yet', as the first full day of activities is announced.

Now in its fifth year, the first day of bluedot will take place on Friday, July 22 at Cheshire's Jodrell Bank Observatory, and will continue to be a family friendly festival, with a whole host of science shows, a kids cinema, hands-on activities and interactive workshops.

Highlights across 'Family Friday' include the Space Shed which returns to bluedot for 2022, amazing its audience with stories, interviews and DJ sets from the country's coolest garden shed.

The Actual Reality Arcade - a life-sized interactive game zone suitable for children of all ages - will bring classic arcade games of the past to life with families playing together for a dose of classic arcade nostalgia.

Combining both music and science, on Friday, Twisted Time Machine will take audiences on an interactive journey through time and space landing in the best music decades from the 1920s through to modern day and beyond.

Jedi Lightsaber Training will allow children to channel their inner Jedi for the day, taking part in a masterclass to perfect their lightsaber skills.

And when it comes to immersive arts experiences, the Luminarium, a beloved bluedot favourite, returns with an immersive light tunnel maze experience for exploration and play.

Music highlights on Family Friday include Groove Armada, Spiritualized, Kelly Lee Owens and Kojey Radical, plus the VIP Village will be hosted by Distric,t whilst comedian Lolly Adefope will head up the culture programme.

Festival director Ben Robinson said: "After a two-year hiatus, our fifth installment of bluedot looks set to be one of our best yet.

Additional family activities will take place throughout the rest of the festival weekend, including a headline slot from astronaut Tim Peake, an appearance from CBeebies favourites Clangers and an interactive and outrageous science show from Brainiac Live.
