POLICE have released a mugshot of a man jailed last week for breaking into the home of a Northwich flood victim twice.

Shaun Kelly, of Beech Grove in Weaverham was branded 'a career criminal' by the judge who jailed him for three and a half years at Liverpool Crown Court.

The 36-year-old was sentenced for muliple offences, the most serious of which was when he broke into the empty home of an elderly woman in Acton Bridge on two occasions in January and February this year.

Kelly was also jailed for selling a stolen car to a 16-year-old drug dealer in Liverpool, that was used just days later in a drive-by shooting as part of an inner-city drug war.

Judge Neil Flewitt, QC branded Kelly ‘a career criminal’ as he passed sentence.

“You have an appalling criminal record," he said.

“You may remember that I referred to you as a career criminal earlier and I think that is the most appropriate way to describe you.

“You have numerous previous convictions, including when serving an eight-year custodial sentence for conspiracy to commit burglary."

Kelly will also serve jail time for an aggravated taking of a vehicle with dangerous driving offence.

Not only did he steal a Kawasaki Z800 motorbike from outside a home in Carlisle, he was riding it when it was involved in a high-speed crash.

Kelly fled the scene of the crash, which left his pillion passenger in hospital, but was identified through his DNA being found on a discarded helmet and on the bike’s handlebars.

He was also disqualified from driving for an extended period of 57 months.
