A HUGELY popular Cheshire charity has raised thousands of pounds after the successful return of its annual golf day.

Down Syndrome Cheshire, which is based in Northwich, took to the fairways at Vale Royal Abbey Golf Club in Whitegate on Friday, April 22.

Now in its tenth year, the golf day was making a post-Covid return, after a two year exodus.

The event was held as part of the charity's World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) awareness and fundraising activities.

A total of 96 golfers took part in the event and managed to raise an amazing £4,000.

Event organiser Suzy Woodmansey, said: "After a break of two years because of Covid-19, we were delighted to be able to go ahead with this year’s event.

"We were also so pleased that many of the local golfers who have supported us in years gone by were able to come back together to support the day again. 

"The charity is reliant on the fundraising efforts of its kind supporters.

"All of the funds raised will be used to support the services Down Syndrome Cheshire provides to its members, from providing speech therapy and education advocacy, to putting on social events for members of all ages."

Winners of the event, which was sponsored by town planning consultancy Grimster Planning, Porsche Centre Chester and Widnes Scania, were team Haydock Comms Two.

In second place were Bar Code Data and third place went to Porsche Centre Chester.
