A NORTHWICH woman has pleaded guilty to causing £200 worth of damage at the town centre pub, along with assaulting a police officer and displaying threatening behaviour.

Appearing in Chester Magistrates’ Court on April 12, Jacqueline Denne pleaded guilty to three charges relating to incidents which occurred on March 24.

The 34-year-old was charged with causing £200 worth of damage to The Penny Black in Witton Street, assaulting a police officer, and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, with intent to cause others to believe that immediate unlawful violence would be used against them

The court heard how Denne, of Muirfield Close, attended The Penny Black at 7.45pm on March 24 and was drunk.

Due to her intoxicated state, staff refused to serve her, causing her to retaliate by throwing a sign and pushing a glass wrack, smashing five glasses.

When exiting the pub, she slammed the door, causing damage to the door handle.

The court was told she re-entered the building 20 minutes later and did not appear to remember her first appearance in the pub that evening.

She caused the same damage to the pub door when she was not served.

The prosecution said when police were called, she was shouting at them, and ended up kicking one of the officers.

These facts are accepted by the defence, who said Denne was ‘mortified’ by the incident.

She will appear back in court to be sentenced on May 16 after meeting with the probation service.
