LANE closures in place on the M6 northbound will remain in force through to rush hour tomorrow morning, Tuesday.

The closures were introduced on Thelwall Viaduct due to the need for emergency repairs to take place.

They were initially introduced towards the end of the working week last week, and remained throughout the weekend and all of today, Monday.

National Highways North West says the closures are needed to allow the work done to a defective bridge joint to set before traffic can travel over it, with motorist safety being paramount.

A spokesman said: “Northbound lanes one and two on the M6 will be closed from 8.30pm, leaving two lanes running past the scene.

“The exit slip road at junction 21 will also remain closed.

“We are aiming to have the repair completed and everything open again by 7am, but this may be as late as 8am.

“While the repair is reasonably quick, the concrete and work around the bridge joint needs to cure and set before we can let traffic run over.”
