MOTORISTS are facing severe delays with queues stretching back 13 miles on the M6.

National Highways North West has also reported that there are 90 minute delays on top of normal journey times.

This is following emergency bridge repairs on the M6 northbound, Thelwall Viaduct.

As a result, the M6 northbound exit slip road at junction 21, Woolston is currently closed.

Two lanes, of four, are also closed and all closures are expected to remain in place for the rest of the day.

This incident follows earlier delays on the M6 this morning, Friday, due to emergency engineering work.

An emergency inspection was carried out on the northbound carriageway of Thelwall Viaduct.

Two lanes were closed because of this at the time between junction 20 for the M56 at Lymm Interchange and junction 21.
