DELAYS are being reported on the M6 due to emergency engineering work this morning, Friday.
An emergency inspection is being carried out on the northbound carriageway of Thelwall Viaduct.
Two lanes are currently closed between junction 20 for the M56 at Lymm Interchange and junction 21 for Woolston as a result.
The M6 northbound exit slip road at junction 21 is also closed.
Queuing traffic is stretching back for five miles, with travel time estimated to be around 45 minutes on top of normal.
National Highways is urging drivers to allow for extra time for journeys.
Traffic was stopped earlier for half an hour between 8.40am and 9.10am, with two lanes since reopening.
