A CHILD killer, a group of fraudsters and a man who tortured his friend over a stolen tin of chicken curry are among the defendants to be sentenced in court this month.

Child killer Brandon Heath was jailed after causing the death of a 22-month-old girl and trying to blame it on her mum.

The 22-year-old, of HMP Altcourse, was convicted of manslaughter at Chester Crown Court on March 3 after the jury cleared him of the more serious charge of murder.

The youngster was taken to hospital on August 30, 2020, while in Heath's care and it was discovered she had suffered a ‘catastrophic’ brain injury.

On March 8 Heath returned to court for sentencing and remained emotionless as Mrs Justice Naomi Ellenbogen sent him down for 13 years and six months.

A man was jailed after he admitted an almost year-long campaign of 'humiliating' and 'controlling' behaviour against his ex-partner.

Neil Brown, of Beeston Close in Middlewich, was set to face a trial but changed his plea to one of guilty at Chester Crown Court on Thursday, March 10.

The 61-year-old was said to have isolated the woman from her friends and family as he engaged in the controlling behaviour between November 1, 2020, and October 15 last year.

Fraudsters who stole more than £145,000 from a vulnerable relative to fund their lavish lifestyle were jailed.

Scott Billington, Janet Billington and Keith Billington were sentenced at Chester Crown Court on Friday, March 11, to a total of 11 years in prison.

Scott, 30, and 60-year-old Janet had previously been found guilty of fraud by abuse of position and possession of criminal property following a six-day trial at Chester Crown Court.

Their co-defendants, Vicky Bailey, aged 34, and 64-year-old Keith, were both convicted of possession of criminal property at the same hearing.

The main perpetrator Scott was jailed for five years, Janet and Keith were handed three-year sentences.

The trio all live at Forster Avenue in Weaverham.

Bailey, of Drillfield Road, Northwich, was given a 15-month sentence, suspended for 18 months.

A teenager will spend two years in prison after dealing drugs to fuel his own drug habit.

A crown court judge deemed Mark Jones, of Peckforton Way, Northwich, ‘a classic case of somebody becoming dependent on and involved with drugs’.

The 19-year-old appeared in Chester Crown Court today, Friday, March 18 to be sentenced.

A Winsford man was jailed after he threatened a woman with a kitchen knife.

Nicolas Marsh, of Saville Court, also made threats to smash the windows and house of her parents during a scary incident in January.

The 25-year-old was given a 15-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to the terrifying offences.

Marsh was appearing at Chester Crown Court on Tuesday, March 22, where he was sentenced on a total of three charges.

A man from Winsford was jailed after carrying out an unprovoked road rage attack.

Dylan Munro, of Aston Avenue, was sent to prison for eight weeks after attacking another man on September 12 last year.

The 27-year-old carried out the attack in Crewe, and according to magistrates it was so serious, it was only deserving of custody as a punishment.

Munro was appearing at Crewe Magistrates Court on Monday, March 21, where he pleaded guilty to the single charge of assault by beating.

A Knutsford man tied up his friend and 'tortured' him for more than two hours after they fell out over a stolen tin of chicken curry.

Stuart Paul McPhee, of Longridge, falsely imprisoned Daniel Edwards in his flat, after parading him around the estate with his hands tied, in a bid to humiliate him.

After beating him with sticks, the 46-year-old then cut him with a knife and poured bleach into the wound, which a judge said was 'akin to torture'.

McPhee was sentenced on March 25 to serve 32 months in prison for the offence, which took place on February 18 last year.

A man was jailed for his part in a double burglary at a commercial beauty property in Handforth.

Harrison Pratt, from Howley Mill Lane, in West Yorkshire, took items worth around £26,000 in the burglary on Commercial Avenue between January 1-5, 2001.

The 24-year-old was appearing at Chester Crown Court on Friday, March 25, where he was sentenced to serve 20 months behind bars.
