PLANS have been submitted to create a camping site at a disused stone quarry in Cheshire.

An application has been sent to Cheshire West and Chester Council seeking permission to transform the Quarryfield Camping site off Rode Street in Tarporley.

The proposal would see the site, part of which has already been used for camping, prepared for a mix of pods, tents and mobile caravans, with two toilet and shower blocks erected.

In total there would be 27 pitches comprising seven pods, 10 tents and 10 touring caravans/caravanettes.

A new access road for vehicles and a sewage treatment plant are also planned for the site.

The application site has, in part, been a well-established campsite for more than 10 years and was recently purchased with prior planning approval for a 20-tent campsite.

A design and access statement, written by Trevor Mennell Planning on behalf of the applicant, says: "It is my client’s intention to invest in the land by improving the current on site facilities.

"This will include bringing the park up to a more modern standard to facilitate tents, pods and touring caravans all with designated parking.

"The facility would include two permanent buildings of low level construction primarily to facilitate showers and toilets for its visitors.

"At the time of the previous planning approval a major contention has been the existing vehicular access off the A51.

"The proposal is to mitigate this by installing a totally new access with turning facilities and visibility splays.

"Adequate on-site parking is proposed and two electric car charging points are located near to reception. The application will also include bin store, fire points and cycle racks."

The site will be controlled by a warden's office and main reception located within the shower block building at the entrance.

The design and access statement added: "This is a planning application to give a variety of opportunities for caravan and camping, encouraging tourists to visit Cheshire to enhance the tourism industry of the area.

"The site will also have provision for the disabled. It is a small site but will assist the national need for sites following the coronavirus pandemic and the restrictions to travelling abroad."
