A NORTHWICH community is seeking volunteers to help with a litter pick this coming weekend.

The Great British Spring Clean is a national campaign organised by Keep Britain Tidy, and this year, takes place between March 25 and April 10.

The message is a simple one this year - One Bag Big Difference - with people invited to join the #BigBagChallenge and pledge to pick up as much litter as they can during the campaign.

The Weaverham Trust and its team of litter pickers are holding their big litter pick event on Saturday, April 2.

Catherine Gregory, from the trust, said: "This event is for the whole family - furry friends, toddlers, teenagers - everyone!

"All welcome, but children must be supervised.

"Meet on Russet Road next to Weaverham Library for a 10.30am start.

"If you can only spare an hour they’ll be a route for you.

"Disinfected litter picks, hi-viz vests and bin bags will be provided.

"Please bring your own gloves, disposable gloves will be available on request.

"All equipment is sanitised and anti-bacterial spray and hand sanitisers will be available on the day."

You can register your interest in taking part or highlight any areas that need attention at The Weaverham Trust Facebook page.

Cheshire West and Chester Council are also encouraging people to take part and help keep their own streets and communities clean.

The council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for environment, highways and strategic transport, Cllr Karen Shore, said: "Litter picking is something that anyone can do and removing just one bag of litter helps our environment, improves our community and boosts our own mental health.

"If lots of people carry out this small action, it could make a huge difference to the places we live.

"Of course, litter only exists because people drop it.

"It's important that everyone takes responsibility for their waste and either puts it in a public bin or takes it home with them.

"I hope as many people as possible get involved with this year’s Great British Spring Clean.

"Many thanks to all our wonderful volunteers who litter-pick regularly in their area."
