POLICE stopped a speeding car in Cheshire to find the windscreen cracked and an unrestrained baby in the back.

Officers from the North West Motorway Police clocked the vehicle travelling at 'excess speed' on the A556 before it joined the motorway shortly before 5pm yesterday.

Once the car was pulled over the damage to the windscreen and the baby were discovered.

The baby was found in a pushchair, which itself wasn't restrained.

The driver was issued a PG9 prohibition notice and reported for motoring offences.

A North West Motorway Police spokesman said: "Vehicle driven at excess speed on the A556 and joined the motorway.

"Stopped to find there is a baby unrestrained in the rear in part of the pushchair (not a child seat and not even belted in).

"PG9 prohibition issued until windscreen repaired and driver reported for all offences."

PG9 prohibition notices are given for mechanical problems or for the condition of a vehicle’s bodywork and equipment.
