When and why did you take up photography?

I’ve always been interested in photography since I was a young child after being given an automatic camera by my parents, but it was only a couple of years ago that I was pointed to a free online course called ‘A Year with my Camera’ (AYWMC) which I enrolled for.

Since then, I’ve upgraded to a better camera and progressed from using automatic to manual and having learned a lot more about how a camera works, I’m finding I’m taking better pictures.

What do you love about taking pictures?

Being able to look back at the progress I’ve made but, more importantly, the memories it gives me which I’m able to share with others.

In addition, in following the AYWMC course and learning all about composition, I find I’m seeing more photo opportunities wherever I go.

Where is your favourite place to take pictures and why?

I don’t particularly have a favourite place but if I was to pick a place, it would be the Peak District for the glorious landscape opportunities, as I frequently venture up to that part of the country for long walks.

What is your favourite subject matter and why?

Again, I don’t particularly have a favourite subject matter and like to take pictures of various things, but looking back at my photos, the majority seem to be veering towards landscape photography.

What do you enjoy about being part of the Guardian Camera Club?

I love seeing what other great photographers are out there and seeing what they produce and to take part in the weekly challenges.

It gives me great pleasure and pride when one of my pictures is published in the weekly paper.

If you could photograph anyone/any place/anything, who/what would it be?

I would love to have a go at taking a photo of a Bald Eagle or Niagara Falls, both of which I’m hoping to achieve sometime this year.
