After skyrocketing to record levels in recent weeks, fuel prices across the UK are about 30 per cent higher than this time last year.

According to statistical data released by the Government today, the average price of unleaded petrol as of March 14 is 159.96p per litre.

This is a 7p per litre increase since last week and a 36.1p per litre increase on the previous year (March 2021) – a 29 per cent rise.

The average cost of diesel is now 169.48p per litre, which is up 10.9p per litre since last week and up 41.2p per litre since last year – a 32 per cent increase.
