MORE than a dozen scouts from Northwich joined others from across the region as they took part in a night-time hike

Fourteen scouts from 1st Hartford joined 40 other scouts from across the Mid-Cheshire Scouts district on Sunday night, to hike from Trentabank Reservoir in Macclesfield Forest to Shutlingsloe, in the dark.

The event, organised by Mid-Cheshire district Climbing and Hillwalking Active support unit, was well attended and shows that Scouting in the Northwich area is bouncing back after the pandemic.

Scout leaders were keen to strees how events such as this one are so important for giving young people opportunities to learn skills and participate in activities in the outdoors.

Duncan Appelbe, 1st Hartford Scout leader, said: "This was a fantastic event that left all the scouts who attended, especially the 14 from 1st Hartford, buzzing with excitement and wanting more opportunities.

"Activities like this require specially trained leaders to ensure safety.

"We are fortunate to have district active support units that provide this essential specialist knowledge and experience."

As a volunteer-led organisation, Scouting aims to give young people from all backgrounds and abilities opportunities to learn Skills4Life and more importantly to have fun.

Cheshire is one of the largest Scout Counties in the UK with a total membership of over 14,000 and growing.

The District offers scouting from ages five½ through to 18 years old starting at Beavers, through to Cubs, Scouts and Explorers.

Squirrels, which caters for ages four to five½, will also be launching in 2022 in the area.
