A CHURCH in Northwich is holding a vigil for Ukraine as the conflict with Russia continues.

On February 24, Russia began a large-scale military attack on neighbouring Ukraine on the orders of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Since then, dozens of people have been killed and hundreds more wounded as the fighting escalated.

Talks between Ukraine and Russia did get under way on the border with Belarus this morning.

Worldwide support for Ukraine has swelled since the invasion began alongside widespread condemnation of Russia's actions.

And tomorrow evening, from 6pm until 7pm, St Helen's Church Northwich is opening its doors to the public for a time of prayer for peace.

This follows a request from the Diocese of Europe to hold the vigil for the chaplaincy in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv and other churches in the country.
