VITAL funds have been raised to help a Northwich mum put on a life-saving heart screening weekend in the town centre.
Deborah Dixon has been raising money for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) since tragically losing her only son Aaron, aged 23, from an undetected heart defect.
A memorial fund in Aaron's name has since been set up to support CRY.
Now, as the charity's Cheshire representative, Deborah is looking to hold a weekend of screening in July 2023 for those aged 14 to 35.
The event, which will see 200 young adults screened, costs £10,000 to put on.
And to help Deborah reach her goal, The Old Broken Cross Golf Society has donated £560.
The society chose to donate to Deborah as member Steve Comboy learned of her work after getting both of his sons screened.
Deborah said: "After the past 18 months of not being able to raise money, when Steve contacted me to tell me they had chosen Aaron's Memorial Fund, it was amazing.
"When you consider 12 young people are dying every week from undetected heart conditions and because of lockdown a lot of young people in Cheshire will be walking around who we haven't seen, these screenings are hugely important."
