ADRENALINE junkies are being urged to sign up for a 'wacky races'-style event which is speeding into Cheshire for the first time this year.

The Krazy Races 'Soap Box Derby' will be taking place in Northwich on Sunday, June 26, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Thousands of spectators are expected to line the streets to cheer on the racers who will have to navigate their bespoke karts around chicanes, obstacles and water features on the Castle Hill track.

Now the charity is encouraging teams to sign up for the races, with trophies awarded to fastest winner, best dressed, most innovative design and more.

Applications are open and it is hoped between 40 and 60 teams will take part to help raise vital funds for the charity.

Macmillan fundraising manager for the North West, John Rullo, said: “We’re over the moon to be working with Krazy Races as the official charity partner for the Northwich event and would love to encourage as many teams as possible to sign up to race for Macmillan.

“The races are a great opportunity to raise vital funds for us so that we can continue to do whatever it takes for people living with cancer.

“If you’re not an adrenaline junkie and would prefer to watch from the safety of the side-lines, look out for our collection buckets, information stands, a tombola and cake stalls.

"We’re really looking forward to the event and hope to see plenty of people there.”

The event – which was originally scheduled for the summer of 2020 but was postponed due to the pandemic – will be staged by the Sarah Belcher Events company, working in partnership with Northwich Town Council.

Sarah Belcher, founder of Krazy Races said: “It’s been a challenging couple of years, so we’re excited to be bringing this wacky event to the people of Cheshire.

"It will be a fun, family day out and we can’t wait to wave the chequered flag to start the event.
