THERE are no plans to deploy Northwich's flood defences despite concerns being raised as Storm Franklin continues to batter the region.

A number of trees have fallen down and several power cuts have taken place across the area as during the third named storm in less than a week.

Concerns have also been raised about the water level in the River Weaver.

But town mayor Sam Naylor posted on Facebook saying there is currently no intention to make use of the town's flood defences.

His post in Northwich Life read: "A number of concerned people have contacted me re the flood risk to the town.

"I have been down and taken a look and liaised with the Environment Agency (EA) and at this time there is no intention to deploy the flood defences but of course there will be constant monitoring and they will respond accordingly.

"The EA state that the drains are all functioning with no surface water issues and that contingency measures are on standby to operate as required."
