More than 300 new Covid cases have been reported in Cheshire West and Cheshire East in the latest 24-hour period.

According to figures released by Public Health England, 313 people tested positive across the two boroughs between 4pm yesterday and 4pm today.

This is made up of 155 in Cheshire West, which takes the borough's total since the pandemic began to 101,620.

There were 158 new cases in Cheshire East, with the borough's total now at 108,590.

The seven-day case rates for both boroughs continue to drop, with both now under 500 per 100,000 of the population.

A total of 1,520 people tested positive in the last week in Cheshire West, making the rate 442.1.

There were 1,847 new cases in Cheshire East in the same period, taking the rate to 477.7.

Nationally there were 38,409 new cases reported in the latest 24-hour period.
