A DRIVER travelling well above the speed limit on the motorway in Cheshire only had a provisional driving licence say police.

The motorist was tracked by officers from Cheshire Police’s Roads and Crime Unit on the M6 northbound between junction 18 for Middlewich and 19 for Northwich and Knutsford at Tabley.

Police stopped the Range Rover at Knutsford Services, where they say an inspection revealed the driver only held a provisional driving licence.

They are set to appear in court at a later date for speeding, driving without insurance and driving otherwise in accordance with a licence.

The stop was made as part of Cheshire Police’s new Operation Enforcing – a long-term campaign targeting motorists connected to criminality, as well as reducing the number of serious and fatal collisions by pursuing those committing ‘Fatal 5’ offences.

These are: careless driving, using mobile phones, failing to wear a seatbelt, speeding and drink and drug driving.

Posting on social media this morning, Sunday, the unit said: “Vehicle followed travelling on the M6 northbound between junctions 18 and 19 travelling at 90mph.

“Taken into Knutsford Services where it was found the driver only held a provisional driving licence.

“Vehicle seized and driver summonsed to court for excess speed, no insurance and no licence.”
