JOHN Salmon has stepped down as chairman of Witton Albion FC.

This afternoon, the club confirmed that Salmon, who took over from Mark Harris in 2018, would relinquish his position and directorship with immediate effect.

Albion confirmed that director Graham Wood would take on the role of chairman until the end of the current season and that they aim to announce a permanent replacement in the coming weeks.

Salmon said a mixture of business and personal reasons have informed his decision to step away from the U Lock It Stadium.

"It has been an honour to serve this fantastic club for eight years, the last three and a half as Chairman," he said.

"However, being a Probate solicitor, the COVID-19 pandemic has increased my workload dramatically.

"Accordingly, I no longer have the free time that I once had to dedicate to club affairs."

A Witton board statement continued: "The board would like to thank John for his service over the last eight years.

"The day-to-day tasks formally undertaken by John will be undertaken by fellow director Graham Wood until the end of the season.

"The club hopes to be able to make an announcement regarding the permanent appointment of a new chairman within the next few weeks.

"Graham would also like to re-iterate the need for volunteers to step up to assist with the smooth running of the club, particularly on matchdays. This is a fantastic way to get more involved with the club.

"Anybody with an interest in helping out in whatever way they can please email Graham at wittonalbionfc1887@outlook.com."
