WINNINGTON Park senior colts are setting their sights high after making a strong start to their season.

The under 18s team are unbeaten so far in league competitions, with Sunday's 29-17 home win against Manchester taking their sequence to seven wins.

They finished top of Halbro Preliminary League C in the first part of the campaign, beating Stockport, Wilmslow and Whitchurch along the way.

And now they are leading the way in the Senior B Conference, with four matches remaining.

The team’s achievements so far are considered all the more noteworthy in that the squad is made of a mixture of under 17s and under 18s players.

Co-captains Alex De Keyzer and Charlie Hyde, who is the team's top try scorer, are hoping to kick on to make this a season to remember.

The last time Winnington Park's senior colts won their league was in 2010.

Team manager Chris Sheppard said: “Considering they are a mixed age group they’ve come together and put trust in their teammates to train and work hard to reach the ultimate goal.

"You can see that this hard work at training is paying off with results. And the lads are enjoying the success.

"Hopefully we can keep this momentum going into the back end of the season and keep working hard to win the league and get our hands on the league cup and Cheshire Cup too."

Head coach Charlie De Keyzer has guided the players through the age groups to be the force they now are.

“They are a great bunch of lads and it’s been a fantastic journey taking these boys from under sevens to senior colts,” he said.

The team's achievements so far this season have been recognised by local business Coveris Winsford, who have provided the squad with quarter-zip tops as well as eight bench coats.
