TEMPTATION is likely to be rife in Northwich as the town announces a gig by one of the most iconic bands of the 1980’s.

Radio Northwich has announced an appearance by new wave synth-pop band Heaven 17, who will play at the town’s iconic Plaza this summer.

Formed in Sheffield in 1980, the band were a trio for most of their career, composed of ex-Human League members Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh (keyboards) and vocalist Glenn Gregory.

Although Marsh left the band in 2007, Ware and Gregory continue to perform as Heaven 17.

Their standout debut “Penthouse and Pavement” album spawned several early hits while all-time classic “Temptation” remains the band’s biggest selling single, reaching number 2 in the Official UK Singles Chart in May 1983.

The band will take to the stage at the Plaza on Friday, August 12, with proceeds from the concert going to support the ‘Simply The Breast’ charity, which was formed to raise funds for the Breast Care Unit at Leighton Hospital.

Kim Smith, Partner at Radio Northwich said: “We are absolutely thrilled to bring a band of Heaven 17’s stature to play at the iconic Northwich Plaza.

“They are the biggest band to come to Northwich since The Charlatans home-coming gigs in 2018.

“It’s great to see the venue coming back to life as a space for amazing live music.

“Heaven 17 are one of the most iconic bands of the 1980’s and have a superb pedigree of performers.

“We anticipate many visitors from outside the region will attend the concert, providing an opportunity to showcase Northwich as a visitor destination and a great home for live music events.

Heaven 17 will be supported by Electromantics – The UK’s premier 1980’s Electronica/New Wave tribute band and local electronic pioneers UNE, featuring BBC 6 Music’s Mark Radcliffe.

Tickets for the gig go on sale on Friday, January 28 at 9am and are available through Skiddle priced at £35 and £45 (booking fee applies).

There are also an extremely limited number of VIP “meet and greet” tickets available at £85 each, please contact info@radionorthwich.co.uk for more details.
